The startup scene in the former USSR countries is in the meantime really mature. AletrGeo, DaOffice, Dnevnik.ru or Oktogo.ru, these are only few names, which take their place in the Top 50 of the most successful Russian Startups. More and more foreign investors show their interest for the new lucrative digital ideas from the Eastern Europe. Also the worldwide eminent Russian business tycoon, the owner of Chelsea Football Club and the main holder of the private investment company Millhouse LLC , Roman Abramovich, recognized the opportunities of the new media business.
According to the Russian News portal “Vedomosti”, the founders of the most used links exchange service in Russia Sape.ru, grounded the “investment structure”, which will also include the venture fund ImpulseVC (65$ Mio. , period – 5 years), accelerator and incubator for start-ups. The investments will cover different directions, inter alia technology, new media and entertainment. Grigory Firsov, the grounder of Sape.ru, and Ksenija Chabenko, the representative of Mail.ru Group, confirmed the participation of Roman Abramovich in both projects, Sape.ru and ImpulseVC fund.
About 50 projects per year will get the financial and technological support. Every start-up can expect around 20-100K Dollars, provided that the investors will get about 7-15% of the shares in the company. The best projects will get into the incubator, where startupers get a fat investment around 500K Dollars, for the share in company amounting to 25-30%.
