Yandex Ukraine published the results of the Twitter usage analysis of the Ukrainian Internet users. The research paper includes information about the activities of the Ukrainian Twitterers and the main trends and topics discussed during one year, from July 2013 till July 2014.
According to the whitepaper the number of the Ukrainian Twitter accounts and their activities grew significantly. The main reason is the usage of Twitter for communication of the past and current political affairs: Ukrainian Maidan, president elections, the annexation of Crimea and others.
During July 2014 the number of new Ukrainian Twitter accounts reached the mark 100K, which is twice as much as during the first six years of service existence (2006 -2012). The most accounts, which were registered during the research period, come from Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, the Western regions and Crimea region respectively.
Based on Yandex blog search indexation there are currently about 600K Twitter accounts in Ukraine and about 400K are daily active.
From July 2013 till January 2014 the average number of Tweets per day was about 80K. Later on the number of daily Tweets reached 180K. Finally in July 2014 the Ukrainian Twitter users produced about 600K Tweets on a daily basis.
The trendiest hashtags were of political nature. So the hashtag #євромайдан (#euromaidan) was mentioned about 500K times, followed by the its Russian and English versions (about 150K times) and other revolution related hashtags, like #putin, #revolution, #slavyansk, #war and others.
